EXPLOITATION OF ELDERS

A new type of scam for looting the Elders.

Yesterday I just learnt another horrifying story of how an 80 Plus Elder person staying alone at Golf Green, Kolkata was exploited and looted by a well known Elder Care Service provider.

First the service provider engaged him for Elder Care Services at a charge of over a Lakh per year for only non medical services with only A show Medical Emergency Assistance service.

Then comes the care manager who happens to be an Ex-servicemen who used to deliberately put the older person's mobile to Airplane mode or block Sim cards so that he could not use his phone. Then he would say that the phone is damaged and needs repairing. He would charge a hefty amount and would not return the phone for some days saying that it was severly damaged beyond repair and needs a new phone. He would then buy a new phone for him and earn another ransom while would use his previous phone or return him a damaged phone after months.

He has repeated this phone scam several times before removing the attendant by false allegations who learned his evil doings.

The last one was the smart watch provided by the elder Care company which needed charging multiple times per day and very poor maintenance for which he had to pay some thousands as security deposit and as monthly usage fees.

Since the lonely Elders have to depend on these people, many of them take undue advantage or do some sort of exploitation. So please be aware of this type of exploitation of Elders draining of their hard earned money.
